Lance Keltner began playing guitar at age 10. By the age of 12 he was rocking the music scene in Oklahoma and Texas to packed houses fronting his own band. There was never any doubt that Lance would pursue a career in music. At age 19, Keltner moved to Austin, Texas where he quickly became an important part of the up-and-coming rock scene.
Keltner had grown up on the blues, and was now transmitting those blues riffs he had learned as a young boy through several 100 watt Marshall Stacks, and opening shows for everyone from Joe Satriani, to Eric Johnson, and the Allman Brothers.
The 1990’s proved to be a busy time for Keltner, his credits including: touring the US with his self- titled band, and working as a guitarist and musical director for several artists (Tim Karr EMI, Phil Lewis of LA Guns, and Mike Tramp, and more).
Two notable records were released during that time, the critically acclaimed self-titled album on East/West Atlantic records, and the Provogue records “Empty V”, a rock/blues album produced by legendary music producer Andy Johns (of Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, and Van Halen fame).
The year 2000 brought with it more touring, this time to include Europe. Keltner performed at festival shows in Germany, even performing at the Tegelen Blues Rock Festival in the Netherlands.
More recording followed, in 2001, with the release of “Last of the Cowboy Vampires”, also produced by Andy Johns. This record includes some straight up rock, some dark ambient tones, and even ventures into blues/gospel territory. Adding to the strength of the recording, superstars Eric Johnson and David Grissom were guests on the album.
2001 brought international fame for Keltner, when he performed with Rod Stewart, and was included in the accompanying music video. Becoming a regular touring fixture in Europe, Lance Keltner and Cowboy Vampires headlined in Berlin, Luxembourg, and the world famous Leverkusen festival televised to 20 million music fans in Europe.
Two new records and new tours for Lance Keltner and Cowboy Vampires followed in 2002. The first new album was simply titled “Lance Keltner and Cowboy Vampires” was released by Ulftone records in Germany and the Benelux territories in Europe. The Album was produced and engineered by band mate and former Billy Idol guitarist Mark Younger-Smith. The second was a self-titled album released by Ulftone.
Keltner’s next project, with band name Simranking, included high-profile band mates Carmine Rojas (David Bowie and Rod Stewart) on bass, and Tal Bergman (Tower Of Power, Billy Idol). The new musical direction took Delta Resonator guitar music and melded it with World Music rhythms and melodies.
Lance has played guitar on several national TV commercials, as well as writing and recording all of the guitar tracks for the Big Buck Hunter video game. He has also recently broken new ground in the world of product demos of high-end musical equipment, successfully demonstrating some of the top guitar gear on YouTube. Lance also took time out last year to play on the Memphis Blues Album of the Yearwith Johnny Rawls, and continues to write new material for an upcoming record.
